These examinations are both physically and mentally demading testing all three elements of Karate: kihon, kata and kumite but requires the demonstration of a much higher level of technical proficiency, understanding and knowledge. Tring Shotokan Karate Club is delighted to announce that Sensei Andrew Herbert was awarded Sandan (third-degree Black-Belt) on 23rd October 2016. The Sandan examination tests the same three elements as Shodan (first-degree Black-Belt): kihon, kata and kumite but requires the demonstration of a much higher level of technical proficiency, understanding and knowledge.
