At The Smile Gallery, we offer a surgical procedure called crown lengthening, whereby gum tissue is trimmed down and reshaped.
Crown lengthening is often performed for cosmetic reasons on patients with a “gummy smile,” an abundance of gum tissue that makes their teeth appear unusually short. In some cases, the dentist may also need to remove some bone as well.
If a patient needs a crown but does not have enough visible tooth surface to support it, they may require crown lengthening to expose more of the base of the tooth first.
A patient may also undergo the procedure to treat a severe case of gum disease. In this case, the surgery is often referred to as a gingivectomy and only involves the removal of the diseased gum tissue.
Either way, your dentist will remove the necessary tissue before reshaping the remaining tissue and stitching it back into place.

Dental implants are an excellent solution for filling in gaps left by missing teeth and are an increasingly mainstream part of dental care.
According to the latest Adult Dental Health Survey, half a million adults now have at least one dental implant.
At the first appointment, your dentist will conduct a thorough examination of your mouth, including x-rays, to ensure you are a suitable candidate for dental implant surgery.
They will then apply a local anaesthetic before inserting a small screw into your jawbone. This screw mimics a natural tooth root and provides an anchor point for your new tooth.
A bridge is made up of prosthetic replacement teeth, with a dental crown on both ends anchoring onto the natural teeth on each side of the gap.
Ahead of your bridge fitting, your dentist will administer a local anaesthetic and reshape your anchor teeth to accommodate the crowns.
Once your anchor teeth are prepared, the dentist will take an impression of the area and send it away to a specialist laboratory. Alternatively, if you opt for a same-day bridge, they will take a digital scan and transfer the data to our CEREC® machine.
