Ray originally received a Bachelor of Arts degree from London University. He later qualified from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in 1982 as a Doctor of Chiropractic. He set up his first clinic in Frome, Somerset with his wife, Helle, in that same year. Two years later, Ray obtained his Licenciate in Acupuncture from the British School of Acupuncture. Ray is a member of the British Chiropractic Association (which represents chiropractors who have qualified from colleges whose standards are recognised by the European Commission for Chiropractic Education) and the General Chiropractic Council.
