Acupuncture is the most well-known and recognisable Chinese Medicine treatment. It involves the insertion of fine needles into specific locations on the body called 'Acupuncture Points'. Acupuncture from a Chinese perspective, gently returns balance to the body's energy systems, relaxing the mind and eliminating the damaging effects of stress on body. From a Western scientific view, acupuncture is able to sedate nerve activity, clear inflammation and stimulate the release of specific hormones from the brain. Acupuncture is increasingly seen provided within the NHS, with acupuncture treatments being provided within hospital for conditions ranging from maternity and fertility care and is frequently offered in hospital pain clinics.
