The Huntsman's Dog and Cat Hotel Ltd was built around 1800 as a fox-hunting lodge complete with kennels for the hounds, stables for the horses, and accommodation for the staff. It continued to serve the same purpose for around 150 years. From the middle of the twentieth century, the premises has been the home to numerous dog-related, non-hunting businesses, such as boarding kennels. In 1985, Sue Flanagan bought the run-down property and began the long process of renovating the site. The old flint kennel buildings and yard were revamped as a reception and kitchen area and three catteries. Meanwhile, new kennel blocks were built on the site of the old kitchen garden. The flint stables were internally converted into a Grooming Parlour, a Hydrotherapy Centre and a wash room.
