A recent survey reveals what are the most popular and common plumbing difficulties and challenges DIYers tend to face nowadays. According to the results discovered by the study, tap replacements have emerged as the most common and top plumbing job that DIYers face as a challenge and they contact tradespeople and professionals to do the job for them, fix, or finish. Still, 53% of the surveyed homeowners roll up their sleeves to tackle down the replacement of taps. The second job that homeowners are ready to tackle down and try as a DIY project is dealing with blocked drains, pipes, and toilets. 45% of the surveyed homeowners tried to de-block their own drains, pines, or toilets.
Next, the survey organised by Which? reveals that 41% of the surveyed people rolled up their sleeves to plumb in their appliances, and 35% of the surveyed homeowners decided to fix a leak in their homes all by themselves. More than 3,800 people took part in the survey by Which? that explores the expectations and opinions of non-professional people of tackling down plumbing jobs in their homes as a DIY project.
Furthermore, Which? also aims to offer a further and more insightful glance at other DIY projects and jobs people tend to handle at home before or without calling in the professionals. When it comes to the electrical field, the most popular and common electrical DIY jobs and projects tend to be changing sockets and switches, which is attempted by 70% of the people taking part in the survey. Next, 54% of the participants share that they have attempted to replace a light fitting.
When it comes to the professional field, a further survey among 225 traders and professionals in the plumbing and electrical field, reveals that the most common reason a DIYer is contacting them for is fixing a leak. According to the research, 76% of the homeowners didn’t attempt or failed to fix a leak at home or finish the repair completely. Plumbing in appliances is the second most common reason why a DIYer will pick up the phone and contact a professional plumber to do or finish the job, as 65% of the surveyed DIYers do so. Finally, traders and professionals share they are often hired to plumb in bathrooms, as 62% of the cases they are tackling down involve this thing, while the fourth most popular reason why a plumber will visit your home is changing taps and 60% of the people are calling in for that job.
