The course was around three hours long, and it was full of useful information that applied to the grading. One of the most common knowledge needed for a dan grading is knowledge of the heian katas. The course did a run through all of the heian katas which was very informative, as often katas can be forgotten. The common combinations were also featured in the course, the moves of the katas and combinations were explained one by one, and how the moves could be applied into fighting was explained. Also freestyle fighting was amongst the topics covered in the course and as there were people from various clubs, I found it interesting and a challenge to fight someone who I had never met before, and this was good as I would have to face different people in my grading. Stamina exercises were also in the course such as doing all the heian katas non-stop. It was a good representation of how performing katas would be in the grading after exercise. KSKC was founded by Sensei Glen Wright, 6th Dan, in 1974. It was started by the hard work of a few senior karateka who were serious about their future and others in the martial arts group, with the aim of bringing together several karate clubs that trained in the Kent area. Glen Wright has trained with elite Japanese, European and British instructors and continues to teach, as his instructor Sensei Ray Fuller, with passion and dedication. Glen's work with children extends outside of his own clubs, working with youth groups and teaching self-defence in schools
