Like all Credit Unions, we are owned and run by our members, which ensures that it is our members’ interests that always come first. We are regulated by the Financial Services Authority, and your money is protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Wiltshire and Swindon Credit Union was formed in 2016 following the merger of South Wiltshire, North Wiltshire, West Wiltshire and Steam Ahead Credit Unions. We now operate across the whole of Wiltshire and Swindon. Our mission is to help people get on top of their finances by encouraging them to save money when times are good, so we can then make affordable loans available to them when necessary. We are owned and run by our members, which ensures that it is our members’ interests that always come first. A Credit Union is a local financial cooperative that enables people in a community to work together and help each other get on top of their finances. We operate as a bank, under the same rule and regulations as a high-street bank, which means that your savings are secure and that we follow strict guidelines when offering loans to our members. The interest rate on our loans is regulated by law. We cannot offer loans in excess of 42.6% APR, compared to loan rates in excess of 1000% offered by many high-street lenders and loan sharks.
