The Window Centre was a childhood dream for Managing Director Chris Maunder. Chris had always had an interest in joinery and after coming home from school every day he would work with his father in the garden of their St Thomas home making wooden windows and doors. When Chris left school at 16 he applied to join a YTS joinery scheme but was told he had too much knowledge for a trainee and was invited to train in fabricating aluminium windows instead. In 1985 the company he was working for started manufacturing UPVc windows. Chris moved from the aluminium department to the UPVc department and was soon recruited by a major national company to run one of their local manufacturing Depots. At 24 years of age Chris along with a friend started their own company. In four years this company became so successful it was obvious to Chris that the demand for UPVc windows and doors were so high he would be able to open his own company. In 1996 Chris Maunders Window Centre was established based in a small industrial unit in Clarion Court, Llansamlet. Due to the company growing rapidly, it soon became apparent larger premises would be necessary. Chris had always dreamed of owning his own factory but was unsuccessful in finding suitable premises at this time so Chris Maunders Window Centre moved to larger rented premises in Beaufort Road, Plasmarl. The company went from strength to strength becoming a limited company in 2002 trading under the name of The Window Centre. In 2004 Chris found the ideal premises at St John’s Court, Llansamlet and was successful in securing the purchase of the unit. The Window Centre now employs over 25 staff including window and door fitting teams, building work teams, fabricators and office staff.
