D.D. Palmer originated chiropractic in the USA in 1895. Over the years, chiropractic has gone from strength to strength and is today the largest health care profession in the world after dentistry and medicine. The word ‘Chiropractic’ comes from two Greek words. ‘Cheir’, which means ‘hands’ and ‘Prackticos’ which means ‘to use’. There are over 50 different Chiropractic techniques that have evolved since 1895 and one of them is the McTimoney approach. Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, with special emphasis on the spine. It emphasises manual therapy including spinal manipulation and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation, and includes exercises, and health and lifestyle counselling.
