The Practice originated in Romford, Essex in 1929 as L D Tomlinson and Partners. As a small practice, it handled various works, mainly domestic and small commercial. In the early 1970's the Practice, then known as J L Barnard & Partners, headed a consortium of practices with work being undertaken throughout the world. Specialisation in the field of Pollution Control, Passenger Transport Termini and Security, were developed The Practice moved from Romford to Brentwood in 1966, to Rayleigh in 1994 and to our current office in Canewdon in 2017. A change of name to The Barnard Partnership in 1985 followed Graham Pearce's entry into partnership. Having long been shortened to just 'TBP' by client's and contractor's, a further name change to tbp architects followed the retirement of Ron Odden in 2013, after over 50 years with the practice.
