SPC was established in 1964 by Margaret John, Fellow of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (FCRP). Margaret qualified in 1948 from Cardiff Royal Infirmary School of Physiotherapy. She was a founder member of many organisations within the profession, including sports medicine, acupuncture and the McKenzie Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine, for which she became a national and international lecturer. Margaret was a council member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy for many years, serving on various committees. Council awarded her a fellowship in 1995 for services to the profession and promotion of the McKenzie method. She became Chairman, then President and was awarded Honorary Life Membership of Physio First, the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice. Margaret has been a well known and highly respected figure for many years. Margaret's daughter Rosemary John also an experienced Chartered and Registered Physiotherapist, joined the family clinic in 1982. Rosemary trained at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital School of Physiotherapy, Birmingham, between 1974 and 1977. After working in the NHS in West Midlands, Worcestershire and Warwickshire, and in Private Practice in Switzerland and South Africa, she joined Margaret at Studley Physiotherapy Centre, and has worked to develop SPC over the last 35 years.
