My background is made up of English, Irish and Welsh and my husband TJ’s background is British and Nigerian. We are parents to three boys and are a diverse and multicultural family that embraces all aspects of our heritage. We have travelled extensively and enjoyed learning local customs and appreciating different cultures. Our staff have backgrounds from Britain, Poland, France and Italy and our River Mole children are even more diverse. We love to involve parents in reading stories in different languages, teaching us songs, dressing up and talking about traditional outfits, playing ethnic musical instruments and much more. We find the children are fascinated and learn so much through parents and children. I think of this as our ‘River Mole family’. All children, parents, carers and grandparents become part of our ‘River Mole family’. Inclusion means we need to be sensitive to the possibility of barriers (real or perceived) that our children and families may face in life and we strive to ensure such barriers are broken down. As a setting we promote equality of opportunity and inclusion, which means all our children at River Mole Pre-school will have equal opportunities to achieve and flourish.
