The practice was started in 1989 by Caroline Moxley, and Moxley McDonald Architects was formed when Ian McDonald joined in 1994. We became Moxley McDonald Architects Limited in May 2003. Both partners are fully qualified ARB registered architects, Caroline is also a member of the RIBA, and both are experienced in projects of all sizes and types from initial concept design through to building on site. The largest portion of our work is residential and includes new build houses, barn conversions, refurbishment, alterations and extensions. We have designed many one off new houses for individual clients and several small housing schemes both private and for local housing associations. As well as new buildings many of our projects involve extending, adapting and altering historic buildings, these include Listed buildings, buildings in conservation areas or within the Dartmoor National Park. We both have much experience in this area and Ian McDonald has a post graduate diploma in Architectural Conservation. We have a broad range of experience in addition to private residential projects. Previous and current projects include nursing homes, housing for special needs, primary schools, health centres, dental surgeries, small industrial buildings, offices, shops and community centres. We believe that good design and working closely with our clients and builders is the key to success. Ideally we like to see our designs through to the completion of building work on site, however we are happy to work one stage at a time so clients don’t have to make a large committment to us from the outset. We can prepare ‘Ideas Plans’ or a ‘feasibility study’ for a fixed fee if a client simply wants a design to think about before going any further.
