In time (and typically with the British weather) box sash windows begin to deteriorate and no longer hold in the heat or keep out the cold. Box sash windows and traditional doors are a main feature of many traditional houses and in most cases were fitted when the house was built. It is such a shame that so many people have their windows replaced by cheaper modern white plastic frames when they can have the original design restored to it's original glory. Or if that’s out of the question replaced with exact replicas with double glazed units or just 4mm Pilkington K Glass.
