If you’re a letting agent or a property manager, you’ll soon be required to provide electrical installation checks for any privately owned rented accommodation. These changes were suggested by The Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and will likely be enacted via the existing Housing and Planning Act 2016. These new changes came about on the recommendations made by a recent government report in which a detailed examination was carried out. As part of this new scheme, a system of approved inspectors will be set up and training processes implemented. This regulation will also require landlords or agents to provide visual checks of electrical installations at a change of tenancy and to install Residual Current Devices.
