In 2009 Lois joined the Traditional Buildings Skills Bursary Scheme and undertook placements at St Fagans National History Museum, Cardiff and Tyntesfield House, outside Bristol. She has also worked under contract to both the National History Museum and contractors for the National trust. Working on historic buildings in both settings has given invaluable experience and insight into the role of the conservation painter. Her work has involved extensive use of limewash and other traditional paints, distempers, linseed oil based paints as well as grinding pigments with stand oil for the decoration of the lectern at St Teilos Church. During the early months of 2011 Lois worked in collaboration with the artist Fleur Kelly on a new medieval†organ, gilding and painting the case, music stand and stool. The organ was commissioned by Bangor University as part of the research project The Experience of Worship in late Medieval Cathedral and Parish Churchâ€. It is housed in St Teilos Church , St Fagans. Since then she has worked on other artifacts for the University, most recently an Altar Painting for St Teilo’s. In 2012 The Bishops Palace, Wells underwent major works to the medieval buildings and gardens. Lois was contracted on this project which included painting the unique Undercroft and its kitchen.
