After failing the 11 plus and leaving school at 16 to join the Royal Navy to see the world, my own personal development and outlook on life took a back seat. After meeting my wife, leaving the Navy and spending 5 years working on the production line in a car factory fitting a seat belt every one minute 22 seconds, 8 hours a day, to pay the bills, my life & career had little stimulation or satisfaction. An introduction to a life coach opened my eyes to the challenges and opportunities in my life. I enrolled at evening classes at college. In 1992 at the age of 31, I took redundancy with the support of my wife and two daughters 4 and 6 (and my life coach) to study full time after gaining a place at Ruskin College, Oxford.
