This wouldn’t be possible unless we consistently delivered gardens that delighted our clients, and just as importantly, brought them in on budget. As a small, local garden design company, our success has been built on customers recommending our services to family and friends. A few years ago, I decided to turn a passion for gardening, into a business. Over the years, I had worked on many gardens and small landscape projects, particularly during my travels to countries such as Canada, Australia and the U.S. It was during a return visit to Canada, with my family, that we came across the beautiful island of Gabriola. It is one of the Northern Gulf islands, a short ferry ride from Vancouver Island. I decided to enrol with the Institute of Garden Design and went on to gain a Diploma in Garden Design. It was clear, from speaking to people that there was a need for a more ‘down to earth’ approach to creating gardens. Building gardens single handed has given me a greater understanding of what will or will not work, technically, functionally and aesthetically. Above all, it is most important to understand the clients needs and to be able to tackle any difficulties that arise in the evolution of a garden.
