Radiant heating systems have been around since ancient times when high status Roman buildings usually included a hypocaust heating system in the walls and the floor. Modern technology and materials enable the same levels of comfort to be available to everyone. An electric radiant heating system works by using the floor or ceiling as a low temperature large surface area heater. This allows it to gently warm the surfaces of the room, and then the air within the room, using primarily radiant heat rather than heating the air directly like some other heating systems. This gentle warmth does not affect the quality of the air and it does not change its humidity levels. The radiant effect and the distributed nature of the system also provide superior heat distribution, both vertically and horizontally. This all round, gentle, natural, radiant heat provides superior levels of comfort at a lower air temperature as can be shown by the difference in apparent temperature between standing in the sun or the shade on a cool spring day.
