The town is best known for its history with the railways and ironworks, and was famously used as a filming location for David Lean’s ‘Brief Encounter’ with the famous clock and refreshment room still an attraction today. The bookshop was established in 1977 and is situated across three floors and many rooms, although there was a much earlier bookshop on the site during the Victorian period. Nowadays we stock a wide variety of products, including New, Second Hand and Antiquarian Books, as well as a large selection of Maps.
