On their journey to becoming independent, it is important that children are encouraged, challenged and stimulated every day, exposed to environments that enable their development, and to people and activities that encourage positive outcomes. We have found that children learn best when they are having fun and this is why we use purposeful play. We use open ended questions, both child and adult led play, and all of our resources and toys are within the child’s reach. We allow children to build upon their learning, taking each step at their own pace, guided and supported by us. Inside our setting we have a large range of resources to suit every age group and development stage. Our outside area reflects our inside area and both support all seven area of the EYFS. We use the ‘curiosity approach‘ and encourage children to use their natural quizzical nature to explore and discover using everyday items such as curtain rings or pegs. We have replaced our plastic toys with beautiful wooden figures and play items by Grimm’s, Holztiger and Osteheimer (amongst others), as we believe open ended play is far more beneficial than toys with limited use.
