At its inception in 2011, British Bike Hire didn’t even have the name it does now, nor did it hire bikes! But after a short period of selling wheels, bikes and all things cycling, the idea for a bike hire company sprung to mind, and thus British Bike Hire was born. After a year of dealing with corporate clients and hiring bikes at events around the South of England, the bike servicing side of the business really began to take off, the company all the time under the watchful eye of Tony Houben. In January 2013, the Service, Repair and Renovation Workshop was opened in Woking; from here Tony helped maintain a wide range of customer’s bikes, whilst also catering for our ever expanding list of hire clients at events around the South of England. 2013 and 2014 saw two more years of growth, with expansion into events such as the Palace to Palace bike ride, Prudential RideLondon and of course our long term partners Human Race. These two years also brought in the introduction of our hotel hire packages; working with local hotels in the Berkshire area we were able to provide a range of bikes for hire, as well as servicing bikes for their clients. 2015 was a year of transition for the company, we moved into a warehouse in Ascot to store our bikes as well as to continue with the the bike servicing; this transition was led by a change in management, as Mathilda Barker came on board. We undertook more events including diversifying into mountain biking events such as MudMan, IceMan, and the Samworth Brothers charity triathlon challenge. Though because of all these extra bikes, our Ascot warehouse quickly became too small… And so in January 2016 the bikes found a new home, in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
