A child can be registered on our waiting list at any time. It is never too soon to put their name down. Children are currently admitted to nursery at any time after they reach the age of 2 years. When a vacancy occurs, the first child on the list who is old enough is offered the place. If a parent feels that their child is not ready at that stage, the child’s name can remain on the list for admittance at a later date. In 1977 Molly Nesham, a qualified nursery teacher, opened a playgroup, 3 mornings a week, in the Church of the Holy Spirit hall in Crawcrook. At this time there was no other pre-school provision in the village and the playgroup became extremely popular. As attitudes to nursery education changed and government policies were introduced the playgroup sessions extended to 5 a week and the group was OFSTED registered and inspected. However the ever increasing government regulations were often difficult to meet when operating in a shared building and staff found the limitations frustrating. We started to look for a way of getting our own building but met with numerous disappointments as ideas failed.
