On 22nd November 2005 I was in the cafe at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds. What did I have? I’m guessing a latte and an Eccles cake. A controversial choice in Yorkshire but I’ve never been afraid to rock the culinary boat, especially where fruit-filled pastries are concerned. Steve (a new franchisee client) and I were there to hear business guru and franchise fan Michael Gerber speak. At the first coffee break I started with an easy opener and asked Steve how he was enjoying owning his own business. His answer: “I’ve paid a £25,000 signing on fee to leave a job I didn’t need to leave and to replace it with one I didn’t ask for and don’t want.”
