Bathgate Golf Club has an illustrious history, having produced 2 Ryder Cup captains (and players) in Eric Brown & Bernard Gallacher and a third Ryder Cup player in Stephen Gallacher. Eric captained the side in 1969 (when Jack Nicklaus conceded Tony Jacklin’s putt on 18th green in an unbelievable act of sportsmanship) and 1971. Bernard in 1991 at Kiawah Island — infamous war on the shore. In 1993 at the Belfry and then in 1995 when Europe overcame a deficit for the first when entering the Sunday singles to win the Ryder Cup at Oak Hill in New York.
