I have a strong bias towards tactile effects and a sensuous expression where visual dynamics and structure are being explored. Some of my watercolours are painted with a surfeit of water where I allow accidents to happen which I can incorporate in my image. At other times I scrape into the paint using a variety of tools or I paint with unconventional items - anything that will make a mark. This creates a variety of textures and enables me to follow my feelings, painting in a loose manner rather than dictating what I am going to paint. This instinctive approach creates a visual experience. For my acrylic work I prepare a background from different types of paper to give me a messy surface to work against. From this mess I establish order and meaning.
