Acupuncture is a system of healing, which has been used in China and the East for several thousand years. It uses a holistic approach, which focuses on improving the overall well being of the patient rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms. It involves the insertion of needles into certain acupuncture points to rebalance the energy to allow energy to flow evenly around the body. Most treatments in acupuncture use body acupuncture points. Throughout the body there is a system of meridians or channels which have a flow of energy or Qi in them. These meridians are like rivers with smaller tributaries and this creates a network so that Qi can reach all parts of the body. An acupuncture point is an access point to the Qi. It is like a vortex of energy. There is often a low level electrical resistance at these points. There are some 365 traditional points each one of which will have a specific set of uses. Having said that there are 365 points there are a lot of new points too which can bring the total to several hundred more.
