I gradually increased the distance from Sprint, Standard, Middle Distance and then competed in two Long Distance events (3.8km swim, 180km bike, 42km run). I’ve competed twice in the Alpe D’Huez short distance event, and I can say that this has been my favourite challenge to date. I know all about joint discomfort following the long distance triathlons (!) and when I moved to Whitefield in 2014 I was suffering with muscle pain in my back as well as my calf and achilles. This ultimately led me on a journey towards a career change away from being a Business Development Manager to training as a sports therapist. I’ve been known as Digger since I was 9 years old. A school friend noted how I used to dig my heel into the turf each time I placed the ball to take a corner or free-kick. He started calling me Digger and so did my friends and teacher. It has stuck through High School and employment and is who I am. My wife, friends and parents all call me Digger! So, if you are looking for Richard Daley on social media and can’t find me or my reviews, try looking for Digger Daley instead.
