Chiropractic specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and management of mechanical disorders of the spine and joints. Chiropractic is a fast-growing independent healthcare profession; it is the third largest primary healthcare profession in the world behind medicine and dentistry. Chiropractic is a package of care rather than any one specific treatment. Chiropractors are particularly skilled in spinal manipulation, a safe and highly effective form of treatment for spinal disorders. This improves mobility of the joints and relieves pain by restoring normal function. It has been shown in independent research trials to be highly beneficial for patients suffering with back pain and has been recommended in guidelines published by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). Chiropractors are also trained in other soft tissue techniques such as deep tissue massage, stretching and specific exercise programmes. These techniques are used to relieve tight muscles. Chiropractors are highly trained. They train for five years full time, graduating with a Master’s degree in Chiropractic.
